Timbits?
A man walks into Tim Hortons and looks over the menu. It was his first time in there. The timbits looked like a good snack and small enough for a try in flavor, so asked for one. After eating one, he asked for another.
Then for a fourth one.
Then for a fifth.
Then he asked for many timbits until he ate the tenth one.
He asked the employee, how much do I owe?
The guy replies, "Oh they are 10 cents each."
"Ok," said the man, and dropped a dime in the employee's hand and walked out the door.
Hmmm ... so what's that all about?
It kinda relates to that verse ((1 Corinthians 3:5-9))
Ok, so here's the answer ... the man paid only ten cents for the last timbit he ate, because then it was when he ate it, that his hunger and craving was satisfied. If it wasn't for the first, second, third timbit, then the 10th wouldn't have finally satisfied his hunger. They all contributed in filling him up. ((I wish we could really do that with food, only pay for the food when we're full!))
As so for a non-believer when he comes across the Bible or gospel, or witnessed to by a believer, evangelist. Don't be discouraged when you tell someone about Christ and they don't take it at first. Our role is to perhaps plant that seed. ((as I know you've heard of this before)) But you also could be the one that reaps, or harvests.
Remember that God's work in a person is the conviction part ... just be the second, or seventh timbit for that hungry seeker. Because maybe that person might just need 7 ...
Just some encouragement ... it was kinda neat. ^^

ew... spam (although the real thing doesn't taste that bad - k, maybe it does, but who doesn't crave salty pan-fried canned meat? k, maybe i'm just wierd)
here's a though (or two... or thre... you know how these things are when i comment :P - you've probably read my monstrosities on jonny's blog) from something i read today (actually read it before and totally forgot most of it, then googled it cuz i wanted to show other part of it to my d.g. leader trevor).
what if instead of being in quest for or defence of the perfect belief system ("church of the last detail", it's about "christianity as a way of life" or "christianity as a path of spiritual formation"
maybe it's moved from "yo dog, where u goin if u die tonite" to "if you get to live forty more years, what kinda person u gon become"
click on my name at the top of the comment to catch the rest of the article - highly reccomend, will stretch brains beyond what they currently consider christianity to be.
what about not "taking jesus out to the world" (which is a bit arrogant and presupposes that god's not at work where we're not) but that us being there is a divine appointment where we listen to their story and then connect their story to jesus' story. it's kinda like parents letting kids help in the kitchen cuz of relationship - even though having the kids there might make it take a few times longer and a bigger mess to fix later. (stole this one from len sweet)
len talked about getting a ride from the airport from a dude whose pickup truck had a huge dent in the back from their neighbor's basketball hoop unit falling on it during a freak storm. his neighbors said it was an 'act of god' so they wouldn't pay for it or go to their insurance, and the dude was saying that they liked their neighbors and where they lived. so he said that he could be right or be in relationship.
the church usually likes being right when it's versus the world, but it can still be right and in relationship, plus this culture needs our relationship. it's not asking them to join anythin, but us joining what god's doing.
it presupposes that we know the scriptures (so we can know stuff like "your story reminds me of the story of blind bartemaus"), we know jesus ourselves, and we're in living relationships ourselves.
what was the disciples' biggest problem after jesus died? recognizing him, he showed up in places and modes that they didn't expect. so be preppared cuz there be some surprising places jesus can show up.
i could blab on more about relationship, community, and stuff: our dependance on glass and metal boxes (cars) to get us to glass and concrete boxes (work, malls, church) and glass and gypsum boxes (home) to watch the world happen in plastic and silicon boxes (tv, computer)... - but i'll leave that (and other good stuff like how church is often the only community builder in areas, but also the dangers of idealizing community and how that can lead to it being a commodity people want to experience like disney world, but that isn't realistic/healthy) to the link on my name to the article.
ps. if you'd like, u can delete this comment cuz it's so monsterously huge...
