DON'T WATCH
the movie Wedding Crashers. It's so wrong wrong WRONG.
Sure, it could be funny, oh but how ugly it feels after watching the movie. I can confess, yeah there's laughter, but it's more the nervous laughter. It's quite the disturbance to my mind and heart how society is so disgustingly sexually driven. Not only they really skew up the value of L-O-V-E as so many people so desperately try to capture ... but I dunno, the movie just degrades so many things! I'm sure a lot of you people have watched Mr. and Mrs. Smith ... and ok I could agree it was an entertaining movie, aestetically pleasing to the eye, etc .... but would you agree that it was deep? No?! Maybe there wasn't a purpose to be deep, but it didn't leave much for me to ponder about ... sorta a no-brainer movie ... like a "yay! that was an awesome movie" other person asks, "well what did you like most about it?" "I liked uhmm ... uhmmm...the action of ......" and maybe that's all that could really be said. ((Strictly my opinion))
But hey if I was to really say things I liked about Wedding Crashers ... I do like Owen Wilson and I REALLY REALLY REALLY got excited over the fact that in the previews, for one of the upcoming movies "Transporters2" the base song for the trailer was one done by Toby Mac!! The Slam song. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT! Isn't that crazy amazing? It's exciting to know that his songs are going really mainstream, but I do do pray that Toby Mac doesn't get too sucked into mainstream that compromises are made ... I really hope he sticks to spreading the Truth ... and may God work an outstanding plan ...
Anyway, another movie I saw recently was "Elephant" Another extremity of an example of what our society can be or grow into. I'm not too too sure, but I believe it's a movie sorta based on the Columbine Shooting and was only shown in the little cinema theatres, like our Global one. It had an artistic approach, gratefully wasn't too gory, but definitely left a strong graphic imprint in your mind. Shows how hate can really corrupt and take over individuals.
What is our society going to grow into next?
Anyway, what I read recently in my book really could confirm my so called ephipany tonight, that I fully agree with, in the chapter called, "Introduction to Influences" - 'The other area we see a major impact from the media is an even more dangerous one: oversaturation. The first time you heard a curse word, saw a sex scene, or witnessed a televised kiss between two people of the same sex, you likely reacted with some sort of disdain. But the more you are exposed to things that you may consider wrong, the less negative reaction you will have to it. If these subjects are presented in a favorable, acceptable manner, you may begin to accept them as the norm and possibly even decide to indulge in such acts yourself. Our initial reaction of being repulsed by something can change with oversaturation and move us to show tolerance, and, at the very worst, make us approve.'
Now someone could argue that it depends on what you were taught or brought up with when you were small and that depends on how you would react to certain things, but perhaps that's not the point. Guilt and conscience is there for a reason. I really hope somehow people may realize traps temptation brings us to, and start grabbing back to integrity and values ... and escape.
And of course that's tremendously difficult on our own strength. Only with God's can we go towards what we think is impossible, for He makes things possible.

Yeah, it's why I cut cable TV. Hmm... there was one really good movie that portrayed love really well.
Can't remember what it was though. But in anycase, a lot of movies with a romantic theme these days, if not all, all convey that "You complete me" or "My life is complete with you" which is a very dangerous line of thinking, as NO human on earth can fulfill us in that sense!
haven't seen the movie but my work at the wedding catering company always makes me think of that movie cuz there are always a few spots open at the tables.
grr... can't find it but read an insightful review about the movie (yay found it at http://www.nationalreview.com/karnick/karnick200507180810.asp to read).
Ahh! Sorry Sim, the link doesn't work ><
Do you know about the other movie that's terrifying horrible at describing love?
"Love Actually"
*chucks it out the window*
haha... i've only seen the trailer for 'a lot like love' - liked the ashton playing 'i'll be there for you'
oh, sorry about the link - it takes a bit of work cuz long words don't work well on the comments section... you can copy and paste that paragraph onto something else (notepad, ms word) but no worries if that's too much work.
thanks for the heads up on the movies though - good info to have. i haven't seen anything since batman...
whoops, wrong movie... haha... yeah, saw "love actually" last year and i gotta agree with you that i really didn't like it.
yeah, it's sad but i saw wedding crashers tonight, plus i didn't see it with anyone else and had to stifle most of my laughter cuz i'd be that stupid crazy person who laughs really loudly for a long time at the wierdest times - think john mayer's song: so what if i got a smile on, hiding in the quiet superstitions in my head.
gotta agree with ya again and say that i didn't leave the theater with warm fuzzies. kind of a wierd night... to add to the 'sim's a loser' list above (watching by myself, holding in big laughs), after church (westside king's is three stop signs away from westhills if you take the back road) i did the fast food tour - wendy's drive through for a junior cheese deluxe, ate it while driving across the street to the mac-d's drive through for the mc-deal sandwich, then a three parking lot drive to safeway to get a piece of cake, followed by eatage in the car, then decided to drive 5 seconds instead of the 10 second walk to the adjacent parking lot to see what was playing, decided on 'wedding crashers' over '40 year old virgin' and some other flicks.
but used the 'it goes with my summer job' excuse too. only thing i picked up (not much though, cuz none of the catering is featured) is that the waiters placed the plates on the correct (was going to use "right" but might be confusing) side - the left side - of the seated person during the sitdown dinner at the treasury secretary's house.
gotta also agree that wedding crashers is pretty sick and twisted, but maybe i'm way too oversturate/worldy cuz it didn't really phase me during the movie, but i did walk out feeling empty.
one lame observation before i go - the bad guy fiancee looked like one of the guys from 98 degrees, it's not him, but i kept on doing the "he is him" / "he is him not" petal picking during the movie - yeah, i distracted myself during the movie with a boyband reference, it's sad, i know...
i re-read the link i posted earlier (haha, i'm happy i posted it cuz it saved me time / frustration from re-finding the article) and their observation is true (although i didn't realize it during or after the movie) that ironically marriage is what solves their problems, making the movie a bit of an unorthodox sermon on the values of marriage. also during the movie i mentally agreed with their comment on how much like most romantic comedies, the one-half to three-fourths segment was kinda slow.
haha... sorry for making this a bit like my personal blog with the switchfoot comment, this comment, and (hopefully it won't be too too long... :P) an upcoming comment. maybe you're right, maybe i need a blog... haha
